Sea kayaking at the Summer IslesThe Intermediate sea kayaking course is based at the summer Isles. This course is ideal for people who have been sea kayaking already and have had some exposure to 2 day trips but want to go a little beyond the usual and camp out and learn some more skills on the way. We also offer a 3 star assessment at the end of the course which is included in the price.

Itinerary

Day 1
Book into the B&B in Inverness enjoy the beautiful city. This is an ideal opportunity to meet other trip members. We will also meet you at the B&B, go through the required kit.


Day 2
In the morning drive to a suitable location in the Moray Firth area to go through some skills as required.
In the afternoon or evening work on map reading, sea charts and tidal planning.

Day 3
In the morning we work on weather forecasting and trip planning. This could be the plan for the expedition. In the afternoon some more skills and a short  sea kayaking trip in the Moray Firth area

Day 4
Prepare for the expedition in the morning; pack all gear and final planning for the sea kayaking expedition. After a quick lunch start heading out for a short-ish trip (no more than 20km). Set up camp in the evening on at remote place and cook dinner.

Day 5
After Breakfast head off in the sea kayaks towards another location. This could be a longer day with up to 30km depending on how everyone feels and how the weather is like.

Day 6
Start heading back to the vehicle after breakfast. To finish off the day we can go through a 3 star assessment. Then drive back to the Bed and Breakfast in Inverness.

Day 7
Leaving Inverness.

What you should pack for the 3 day expedition (per person):
  • 1 full set of clothing to wear while sea kayaking - base layer, fleece, trousers, normal over trousers (preferably synthetics or wool, no cotton as it cools the body when wet)
  • 1 full set of clothing for the evenings (including waterproof jacket)
  • 1 full sets of spare clothing for sea kayaking (preferably synthetics or wool)
  • 1 pair of willies or old trainers for sea kayaking
  • 1 pair of walking boots or good trainers for evenings
  • 1 bottle of water (0.5 – 1 litre)
  • Sun cream
  • Hat or cap as sun protection
  • Sun glasses
  • 1 pair of gloves (even in summer)
  • 1 Sleeping bag (2 season for June – August, 3 season for Spring and Autumn)
  • Midge/mosquito hood

What we provide but you can bring your own:
