Weekend Hillwalking in Assynt the Far Northwest Highlands

Stac PollaidhFor some reason the Assynt area is not the most popular area for hillwalking in Scotland. Whatever it is it won’t be the scenery. Some of the hills are very unique in shape and geology. So if you like to look at rocks it is the right place.

Because of the Moin Thrust there are many different types of rocks and some are even at the wrong place on the mountains. Some of the higher mountains in Assynt are topped with quartzite but in the glen below you get limestone. Shouldn’t be possible but it's all part of that uniqueness.

Anyway, the trip to Assynt is a straight forward 2 days hillwalking. On the first day we will walk up Conival and Ben More Assynt. The second day is planned in the evening. Let’s see what we can come up with.
