There are also some tide races in the area however we will try to paddle through them at the best time when the water is slack to going north with us. Camping is usually wild camping but if the group wants to spend one or two nights of the trip at a campsite it can be arranged too.
Optional We can also organise additional days at a Bed and Breakfast. We won't charge any commission for bookings.
The other challange is of course the length of the trip and the lack of shops on the way. There is not really much to reload food between Kyle of Lochalsh and Gairloch (unless you like a tin of beans and spam).
Day 1 Meet up at Armadale introduce each other and start packing the sea kayaks. That day we should be able to make it to Sandeig Island. Day 2 Get up early have breakfast and start packing the sea kayaks. Due to the tides at Kyle Rhea we have to be pretty sharp on the water and get up the coast to make it easier for us. As the tide will help us most of the way we should be able to get as far as the Plockton area. Day 3 This day we should be able to kayak up to the Applecross area but probably even north of the village. Day 4 From there continue sea kayaking north passed Loch Torridon and to Red Point. This coastline is known for the scenic ruggedness and some hidden beaches. From here on the coast is getting more open and more exposed to the west. Day 5 From Red Point we paddle up to Gairloch. There you will find the first shop in days and we might be able to restock food. After restocking we continue just a little more to find a good camping spot along the coast. Day 6 In the moring we kayak up the coast and passed Rubha Reidh which is one of the most exposed headlands we pass. Day 7 We will make this a shorter day see if we will get our pick up at Loch Ewe.
Experience
Must be a fairly Experienced paddler. We recommend at least 10 full days sea kayaking previously. Knowing about rescues and packing sea kayaks is an advantage but not essential.
Fitness Level
You should be fairly fit. After all you will spend several hours sea kayaking every day. Doing one fitness activity once a week is usually sufficient

This trip will take you from Sleat in Skye along the coast of Skye, to Plockton, passed Applecross and further north. The coastline along the route is some of the best in the Scottish Highlands. The paddle will also take us to Kyle of Lochalsh, Red Point and Gairloch. This is an exiting trip with much wildlife to see, many steep sea cliffs on the way and the areas to paddle in are first sheltered and get more exposed as we paddle further north.
This is an advanced sea kayaking trip and therefore only for people who have already been sea kayaking and want to explore something different. The trip passes through some of the most remote areas at the west coast of Scotland and some of the fastest tide races in the country. Well we won't be paddling through when the tide is running at full throttle though. Rather use the flow at the start of the change of tide.
