Sea Kayaking at the Summer Isles

The Summer Isles near Ullapool are some very pretty and remote islands. They are most certainly best explored by sea kayak, since you can explore the smaller isles and pop in and out of some of the caves and the natural arch. There is also plenty of wildlife to watch. The summer Isles has some great bird colonies which can be found on Priest Island. There is also plenty of life on the water. You will be able to spot sea birds like gillemots, shags and other floating feathers. If you are lucky you might even get to see porpoises or a whale.

You will certainly enjoy the summer isles and their beauty. Everyone else does.

Itinerary – Summer Isles

Day 1

Meet at Ullapool and drive to location (ideally Achiltibuie area), load the kayaks and paddle between 10 and 20km exploring the Summer Isles. If the weather allows it, paddle over to Priest Island. Find a remote island to wild camp, pitch the tents and cook dinner.

Day 2

After an early-ish breakfast explore some more of the Summer Isles and finish off in the afternoon.

Experience

Even though you don't have to have previous experience we strongly recommend that you have at least done a few trips in a sea kayak or took part in an introduction to sea kayaking course.

Fitness Level

You should be fairly fit. After all you will spend several hours sea kayaking every day. Doing one fitness activity once a week is usually sufficient
