Sea kayaking around Raasay
Starting to paddle from Sconser in Skye my clients Priyanka and Daniel had just a short afternoon paddle to get used to the sea kayaks. Stopping overnight at a beach near the Raasay Outdoor Centre we pitched the tents with a great view out onto the sea north of us. Just for some practice work we emptied the kayaks and did some coaching in the sheltered bay.
Next morning we all paddled along the westcoast of Raasay to Eilean Fladdy where we had a long lunch break. The weather started brighting up too and sitting there in our cags started becoming a bit warm. After another paddle to the northern top of Raasay we decided to continue to Rona and camp there instead of using the bothy on Raasay. As soon as the sun disapeared the midgies have discovered that it's dinner time and we got a bit mobbed. The open fire did help to deter some of them.
Even though the coastguard weatherforecast mentioned southerly force 5-7 for the last 2 days it only really started getting a little rougher on the 3rd day. Which made me decide not to camp on Scalpay for the last night, but to have a longer day finish of that day. Even though it rained most of the day the golden eagle we spotted at the Southern part of Raasay made the day.
All in all it was a very enjoyable trip despite some of the weather conditions and a quick drink at the Sligachan was a nice finish to the weekend.
