Ice Climbing in the Northern Corries

The weather has been pretty good all weekend so it was time to sharpen the ice tools again. We drove up to the Cairngorm car park and stomped up the path into Coire an t-Sneachda. After having a look at the climbs we decided to just scramble up Aladdin's Couloir. Since it is just a grade one we didn't bother about a rope and zipped up quickly to the top.

We made an escape to the base of Jacob's Ladder and set up for doing Jacob's Edge (I/II*). Just when I started to set off a sea king helicopter picked up someone form the base of goat track or thereabouts.

The first pitch was covered in soft snow and typical winter, not much on the side of gear. I love it, no communication with my belayer and I had only 2 metres of rope left for my anchors. Can't beat climbing in the winter. After Alisa climbed up to my stands she carried on up the climb. However instead of going up Jacob's Edge we ended up doing Hidden Chimney (II/III*). I finished of the last bit with climbing all over the place and make it look harder than it was. Up to the top and a quick belay.

We got back down to the car at 7:00pm just in time to scoot up the road to grab a cappuccino at starbucks.
