Mushy snow in Central Gully

Went out to do some ice climbing on Sgorr Ruadh. The plan was to climb up Post Box Gully (II ***) which looked like a nice line when we got there.

However the rather wet snow did not convince us to have a go at a grade II climb. After all we saw lots of snow release to the left and right of Central Gully. This meant that the steeper areas released snow. While we climbed up Central Gully (I *) we could see snow blocks dropping into the gully from either side. Knowing that we were careful but also knew that the gully wasn't steep enough for that snow to release and there was only at the very top of the gully a hard base.

After we topped out we went up the summit for a quick visit and scooted down the north ridge. Then we went down the path to Achnashellach. I was pretty knackered after that day for some reason, even though it wasn't the toughest day I had in a long shot.
